It has been compiled from the 1918 Luton Absent Voters List, Rolls of Honour; and information researched and uploaded by project volunteers and members of the public.

Before adding anybody to the site, it is always advisable to search for your ancestor first.
Pte George Flitton, 48085, 6th Battalion Northamptonshire Regiment, was killed in action on the Somme on February 17th, 1917. He was aged 26.
Pte George John Gatward, 11054, 11th Royal Fusiliers (City of London), was killed in action on the Somme on February 17th, 1917. He was aged 36 and married with three children, one aged 15 months old.
Pte William Impey, 43127, 6th Battalion Northamptonshire Regiment (ex-Beds Regiment, 26564), was killed in action on the Somme on February 17th, 1917. He was aged 21.
Pte Charles Henry Pearson, 43204, 6th Battalion Northamptonshire Regiment, was killed in action on the Somme on February 17th, 1917. He was aged 32, the youngest son of Kent farmer George Pearson.
Trooper Harold Anderson, 1707, Household Battalion [Life Guards], was killed in action on the Somme on February 18th, 1917. He was aged 27.
Lieut Cyril Edward Franklin, East Anglian Royal Engineers, died on February 20th, 1917, from wounds sustained on the Somme. His widow Annie was reported to have received notification to that effect from the War Office the following day, although some records say "killed in action".
Pte Frederick Alfred Bunker, 16769, 9th Battalion Royal Warwickshire Regiment, was killed in action in Mesopotamia on January 25th, 1917. He had recently spent his 25th birthday and Christmas in the trenches.
Pte Aubrey Julian Pearce, 19182, 7th Battalion The Buffs (East Kent Regiment), was killed in action on the Somme on February 26th, 1917. He was aged 20.
Pte Alfred Ernest Dyer, 10729, 6th Battalion Bedfordshire Regiment, was killed in action in France on February 26th, 1917. He was aged 21.
Pte Bert Lathwell, 43154, 6th Battalion Northants Regiment, was killed in action on the Somme on February 17th, 1917. He was aged 24.
Pte Herbert Thomas Oliver, 60378, 11th Battalion Royal Fusiliers, died on February 19th, 1917, from wounds received in action on the Somme two days previously. He was aged 27 and died at the 47th Casualty Clearing Station in France.
Pte Edgar Frederick Ambridge, 40000, 6th Battalion Leicestershire Regiment, was killed in action in Flanders on February 25th, 1917. He was aged 27 and single.
Pte Harry [also Henry] Dennis Gutteridge, 27949, 7th Battalion Royal Fusiliers, was presumed killed in action on the Somme on February 5th, 1917 - the last time he was seen alive, but wounded.
Pte Charles Mardle, 20175, 4th Battalion Bedfordshire Regiment, was killed in action on the banks of the River Ancre in France on February 13th, 1917.
Pte Patrick Harry Godding, 19653, Dorsetshire Regiment, died at the Royal Victoria Hospital, Netley, Hampshire, on March 6th, 1917, his death attributed to exposure on the battlefield. He was aged 41.
Pte Frederick Arthur Fensome, 2553, 16th Battalion (Public Schools) Middlesex Regiment, died in France on March 10th, 1917, following wounds received on the battlefield. He was aged 20 and was serving in the machine gun section.
Pte Herbert William Carter, 34097, 17th Battalion Middlesex Regiment, died in a military hospital in France on March 7th, 1917, suffering from spotted fever.
Pte Alfred Bent, 43014, 6th Battalion Northamptonshire Regiment, died of wounds on March 14th, 1917, at the No 55 Field Ambulance Station in France. He was aged 31 and single.
Second-Lieut Ralph Wycombe Butcher, 4th Battalion Manchester Regiment (attached 22nd Battalion), was killed in action in France on March 14th, 1917. The 21-year-old had initially been reported wounded and missing.
L-Cpl Cecil Clement Robinson, 16318, 7th Battalion Bedfordshire Regiment, was killed in action near Achiet-le-Grand in France on March 15th, 1917. He was aged 37.
Cpl Leonard Euinton, 32990, 1st Battalion Bedfordshire Regiment, was killed in action in France by a minenwerfer [trench mortar] on March 16th, 1917. He was aged 28.
Pte Frank (Francis) George Miller, 27839, 7th Battalion Bedfordshire Regiment, was killed in action in France on March 14th or 15th, 1917. Official records give the date as the 14th, letters from the front said 15th.
Gunner William Childs, 28795, 86th Heavy Battery Royal Garrison Artillery, died of enteric fever while a prisoner of war of the Turks on January 19th, 1917. He was aged 27 and had served in the Army in India for eight years prior to the outbreak of war.
Sapper Horace George Andrews, 522510 (3337), 486th Field Company Royal Engineers, was presumed killed in action at Gaza in Egypt on March 27th, 1917. He was initially reported to be wounded and missing with the possibility he had been taken as a prisoner of war by the Turks.
Sapper Ernest Robinson, 522390, 486th Field Company Royal Engineers, was killed in action in Egypt on March 27th, 1917. Born in 1896, he was an orphan living with step-parents Joseph and Sarah Bent at 54 Boyle Street, Luton.
Gunner Sidney Stewart (Stuart) Pearson, 115317, 225th Siege Battery Royal Garrison Artillery, was killed in action in France on March 30th, 1917. He was a widower aged 34 with two children.
Signalman James Baird Stewart RN, J/29093, was drowned in a collision in the North Sea in which the minesweeper HMS Q20 sank. The body of the 19-year-old was never recovered.
Cpl Sydney Arthur Smart, 33269, 8th Battalion Bedfordshire Regiment, died on April 6th, 1917, from wounds sustained in France. He was aged 24 and left a widow, Bertha May (nee Harper), living at 46 St Saviours Crescent Luton.
Captain Harry Cunvin Horsford, 5th Battalion Royal Berkshire Regiment, was killed in action in France on April 8th, 1917. He was aged 29.
Pte Frederick Reginald Allen, 27968, 6th Battalion Bedfordshire Regiment, was killed in action while serving as a stretcher bearer in Flanders on April 9th, 1917. He was aged 27.
Second Lieut Frederic George Thompson, 7th Bedfords attached to 6th Bedfords, was killed in action by a shell in France on April 11th, 1917. He was aged 30.
Trooper Thomas Harry Pipkin, 5495, 12th (Prince of Wales') Royal Lancers was killed in action in France on April 11th, 1917. He had survived the first cavalry charge of the war and was engaged in another cavalry advance when he met his death at the age of 19.
Pte George Soffe, 32262, 6th Battalion Bedfordshire Regiment, was killed in action on April 11th, 1917. He was aged 20 and was the third member of the Luton News staff to have died on the battlefield.
Pte Harry Gilmore Bumstead (Bumpstead*), 90017, 45th Field Ambulance, Royal Army Medical Corps, was killed in action in France on April 12th, 1917. He was aged 21.
Pte Albert Edward Nicholson, 233543 (8090), 1/2nd Battalion London Regiment (Royal Fusiliers), was killed in action in Flanders on April 12th, 1917. He was aged 28.
Pte Charles William Soper, 32160, 6th Battalion Bedfordshire Regiment was killed in action in France on April 11th, 1917. He was aged 23.
