The Great War, continued the social and economic changes that were turning Luton from a country town, into the diverse and forward looking place it is today.
It brought workers from abroad, and around the UK to the heavy industries,it ruffled the feathers of the Hat Trade, and it brought Lutonians into contact with people from across the then British Empire.
This project aims to tell the story of Luton’s Great War, via its people today. So whether your ancestors were in Luton in 1914-18 or not, we still want to hear about and share your story.
Luton has the potential to tell a detailed story of the Empire at war, via its people today. Look around to see what’s already online, then register and share your memories, photos, objects, maps, postcards, medals and any other WW1 things you can think of.
