Private William Henry Brown, was the eldest son of William Henry and Lizzie-Ann Brown. He was born in 1891 in Stopsley, and worked a Warehouseman in Luton. He lived with his wife on Park Street West.

Private Brown joined the Bedfordshire Regiment on the outbreak of war, but was later transferred to the Seaforth Highlanders. Awarded the Military Medal on 25th June 1917, for “Bravery and devotion to duty on the field of battle on June 6th” He was employed as a stretcher bearer when he received his medal, and when he was tragically killed only a month later. During heavy enemy shelling, he was cut down by shrapnel and killed instantly. His commanding officer described him as one of the most committed stretcher bearers, and a great loss to the company.
