BISCOT CAMP LUTON

Jan 1

Advance Party – An Advance Party composed as follows proceeded to Luton on 1^st January 1916 to take over Huts etc., from No. 7 Artillery Training School:-

  Lieut. & Qr. Mr. HARRIS (in charge)

1.One Officer and one Senior N.C.O. from each Depot for the purpose of taking up billets

2.  One N.C.O. and 10 Men from each Depot for General Fatigue.

3.  One Officer and 4 N.C.O’s from the Permanent Cadre.

4.  Sergt . McCONNELL and 17 Men as cooks.

5.  One Senior N.C.O. to take over Barrack Stores

6.  Two N.C.O’s from Permanent Cadre for Billeting purposes.

Mr M.R. JONES is appointed in Veterinary Charge of No. 6  Artillery Training School on its arrival at Luton.

The School moved to Luton on Wednesday 5^th January 1916 (in 8 trains)

The Personnel, horses, guns, transport, etc., as detailed for each train arrived at Kettering Ry. Station for entraining 1 ½ hours before the departure of the train.

The Horses travelled with saddlery and harness on.

Transport vehicles carried the authorised loads.

Horses were entrained in accordance with Sec. 38 Field Service Regulations.

Guns, wagons and stores were loaded in accordance with Sec. 39 Field Service Regulations.

The under mentioned Officers were in charge of the various trains during the journey to Luton:-

1^st Train.  2/2^nd D.A.C. and half of Permt. Cadre.  CAPT. AUSTIN.

2^nd Train.  3/1^st Lond. Bde. R.F.A.  MAJOR THOMAS.

3^RD Train.  3/2^nd Lond. Bde. R.F.A. Capt. ALLBERRY

4^th Train.  3/3^rd Lond Bde. R.F.A. Lieut. B.B. CLARKE

5^th Train.  3/5^th Lond. Bde. R.F.A. Capt. STAPLEY

6^th Train.  3/6^th  Lond. Bde. R.F.A. Major BALL

7^th Train.  3/7^th Lond. Bde. R.F.A. Capt. CLEGG

8^th Train   Details of Depot and half of P. Cadre of the School.  Lt. BROWN 

The whole of the Entraining was superintended by Col. F. GRIFFITH.

The following comprised the Rear Party remaining at Kettering to clear up Billeting and hand over offices, etc.

19 Officers and 600 Other Ranks were accommodated in Huts; the remainder were billeted.

The Permanent Cadre and Right Wing Offices were allocated at Biscot Camp and the Left Wing Office at High Town Road, Luton.

The Horses of the various Depots were organised into 4 Groups viz:-

3/1^st and 3/2^nd became Group I

3/3^rd and 2/2^nd D.A.C. became Group II

3/5 and 3/6^th became Group III

3/7^th became Group IV

The personnel still remained under Depot system

Lieut. R.H. JOHNSTON was appointed Orderly Officer to the Commandant.

Jan 15

Major THOMAS on transfer to the Territorial Reserve handed over command of the 3/1^st Lond. Bde. R.F.A. to Lieut.  H. CAREY MORGAN

Jan 16

The unde rmentioned Details proceeded Overseas to  join 47^th Div. Artillery
