Details imported from Luton Absent Voters list and the National Roll of the Great War (Section V). Killed in Action Oct 1918
The National Roll (mostly submitted by families) describes his service as follows: (rank given as Corporal, Northants Regt) Volunteering in October 1914 he was drafted to the Western Front in the following January and took part in the engagements at Ypres, Loos, the Somme, Arras and Cambrai. He was killed in action on October 2nd 1918 and was entitled to the 1914-15 Star and the General Service and Victory Medals.
There are some discrepancies between the National Roll ( date of death given as 2nd Oct) and the AVL (regimental number 17309) and the Commonwealth War Graves records which show 1st October and 17369 but these are probably clerical errors and the Regiment and address suggest that these documents all refer to the same soldier.
UK Soldiers Died in the Great War - these records show that William was born in Tottenham and died of wounds on 1st Oct 1918. He had previously served with the Royal Fusiliers before joining the 6th Battalion Northamptonshire Regiment.
