Frank Gilder was a pre-war amateur player with Luton Town FC. He enlisted with the London Regiment and was sent to France in March 1915. He was killed in action at Loos on 30th December 1915, aged 19.

Mr and Mrs William Everard Gilder lived at 35 Moor St, Luton and had three other sons serving in the Armed Forces:  Archie Leonard, Sidney Everard,  and Claude Wilcox. The Army Service records for Claude at the National Archives include a letter that Claude wrote to his Commanding Officer in December 1918 requesting an extension to his Christmas leave since he has not seen his brothers since 4th August 1914.

He concludes: My mother also lost one of the boys at Xmas 1915, consequently will want cheering up"  This refers to Frank William Gilder.
