Sidney Strapp was born in Luton in July 1893.
In 1911 he was 17 years old, living at 20 Ridgway Road & working as a hat blocker.
His 51 year old father Charles was working as a platelayer on the railways whilst the rest of the family were working in the hat trade. His mother Belinda 48, & 28 year old sister Eliza Jane were hat machinists, his sister Belinda 27, was a hat finisher & 19 year old brother Charles was a wire shape maker. Bertie 15, was an errand boy & youngest brother George 13, was at school.
Sidney was a gunner in the Royal Garrison Artillery Territorial Force. No service record can be found, but his medal roll card says he was also a private in the Royal Army Medical Corps.
He died on 3rd April 1919 as is buried in the cemetery on Crawley Green Road.
His brothers Charles, Bertie & George also fought in the Great War.
