Harry Reed was my Grandfather who was born in Alford, Lincolnshire in 1892 & was the youngest of four children. He married my Grandmother, Gertrude Goodrick, who also came from Lincolnshire in Kilburn, London in June 1916. They moved to Luton & were living at Stopsley Farm where he was employed as a Rough Rider (horse breaker) at the time of his call up in November 1916.
Harry was allocated to the Royal Field Artillary as a Driver & was posted overseas in April 1917 with 'A' Battery of 74 Brigade RFA which was under the command of the Guards Division. He saw action in both Flanders & France before being posted to 'B' Battery of 298 Brigade RFA in December 1918. After 2 weeks home leave in January 1919 he was eventually sent to Thetford Dispersal Centre for demobilisation & discharge & was transferred to Class Z Army reserve in February of that year.
After the war, Harry & Gertrude settled in Luton living in London Road & remained there for the rest of their lives raising 2 children in the process. Harry had several jobs in the town & died of a heart attack in 1951. He is buried in Crawley Green Rd cemetary.
