Serving with his Battery in various sectors he was in action at Arras, Albert, Messines, Havrincourt, Cambrai and other battles and was gassed. In 1920 he returned to England for demobilisation and holds the General Service and Victory Medals.

On recovery he took part in the fierce fighting at Bapaume and Cambrai. He was demobilised in October 1919 and holds the General Service and Victory Medals.
