Growing success of Old Lutonians Club

Striking evidence of a particularly successful year's working of the Old Lutonians Club was given at the third annual general meeting held at the Modern School on Saturday evening.

After Treasurer Mr E. W. Edmunds reported a balance in hand of £29 6s 5d for the year, the Secretary, Mr G. L. Bond, said membership had risen to 163, including 14 past and present members of staff, 78 Old Boys and 71 Old Girls. Practically every old member of the school had been traced and, although some were leaving the country, they were not losing touch with the club. They had members in Canada, Brazil and Australia.

All the meetings had been well attended and four sections of the club had been run with success - a debating section, football club, a tennis section and a rifle club with a membership of between 40 and 50. Thirty Old Boys had enlisted and many of them had joined the same units. The girls had formed a working party for the making of garments for necessitous cases that might arise in the locality.

Lady Secretary Miss L. Hinds said the working party were making children's clothes for distribution among those in the district who were in distress owing to the war. These garments would be placed at the disposal of the War Relief Committee. The party met at present at 77 High Town Road and any new workers would be welcome. The material for the garments was being provided from funds from the club.

Members of the rifle club who had joined the forces were Messrs R .E. Oakley, T .L. Few, G. Horsler, H. P. Duncombe, Hickman, Few, J. Ireland, Brown, Godfrey and Freak.
