Pte Sidney Charles Worboys, 6063, 1/8th Battalion Middlesex Regiment, was killed in action on October 28th, 1916. He was aged 27.
The son of Albert and Emma Worboys, of 176 High Road Road, Luton, he had served at the Front since July 1916. Second Lieut Burns said in a letter to his parents that Sidney was killed instantly by a trench mortar and was buried with military honours in a little cemetery behind the lines.
Charles Thomson Carl Barnard was born in Luton in October 1896.
In 1911 he is 14 years old & living with his family at 203 Castle Street.
His father Charles 45, is a partner in the straw hat materials firm of Barnard and Dawson (23-27 King Street, Luton), his mother Emily Jane (nee Punter), 46, is at home with the children, Emily Gladys 13 & 11 year old Robert Hugh. Charles' older sister Nellie is 16 years old & is working as a ledger clerk.
Second-Lieut Johnson Hugh Linsell, 1st Battalion Middlesex Regt, was killed in action leading his platoon against German trenches in the battle of Loos on September 25th, 1915. He was aged 20.
