Reginald James Payne was my maternal Grandfather born in Dudderston, Birmingham on the 9th November 1896.  He was the 3rd eldest of six children born to Walter & Minnie Payne.

After completing his signaller training at Spike Island, Queeenstown, Co Cork in Ireland, Reg served overseas as a Gunner/Signaller in the Royal Garrison Artillery (RGA).  He was attached to 145 Seige Battery which saw action in both France & Flanders including Passchendaele.  Having survived the conflict Reg returned & married my Grandmother, Elsie Hunt in 1920 & they had 3 children, 1 boy & 2 girls.  Reg lived in Birmingham all his life working as a painter & decorator & died of cancer in 1974.
