The National Roll (mostly submitted by families) describes his service as follows: He joined in 1916 and was drafted to India where he took part in several actions against the rebel tribes on the North-West Frontier. In 1917 he was sent to Mesopotamia and from there to Egypt and Palestine. He fought in many of the principal engagements of the Advance under General Allenby and on the termination of hostilities returned to England for demobilisation in 1919. He holds the General Service and Victory Medals.
