Lieutenant John Wilfrid Staddon of the East Surrey Regiment was the eldest son of John Henry Staddon, the Mayor of Luton & his wife Kate Elizabeth.

During an evening sitting of the local Tribunal at the Town Hall on 20th September 1916 the Mayor received some news. This was reported in the Luton News the next day. (see attached pdf)

On 29th November 1910 John was accepted as a student of civil engineering working in the Borough Engineers Dept, Town Hall, Catford.

In 1911 he was working as an assistant surveyor & living at 'Withycombe' Studley Road, Luton with his family. His father at this time was a manager of a straw hat factory, his brothers Charles Eric, 20 is a law student & Donald 15, is an assistant at a chemical works. His mother Kate Elizabeth is at home with his 11 year old brother Alex Henry. The family have 2 live-in servants, Isabel Leeson is 30 years old & is a companion/helper & 36 year old Mary Emma Fairey is a domestic servant.

John married his fiance Eva Hudson in 1917 in Luton. He survived the war, but sadly Eva died in 1926.

John married Lilian Kilbey in 1929.

He had a career in civil engineer & died at the age of 98 in July 1987 in Chelmsford, Essex.
