National Reserve, the 'forgotten' army

 

In times when so much attention is being attracted by the Army, the Navy and Territorial Force, to say nothing of the new Volunteer Training Corps movement, the National Reserve is not coming very much before the public eye.

But the men who are serving in this force are doing very useful work. There are men, Luton men, who are wearing the uniform of the National Reserve, and who have been constantly on duty since they were called up on October 27th to undertake the responsibility of protecting what are know as "vulnerable points" in the country - railways being one department in particular for the watching of which they have been requisitioned.

For the time being the National Reserve in Bedfordshire is attached to the 5th Battalion Bedfordshire Regiment, the members being classed as Territorials, and at one place along near Luton the following are on duty:

BRIGGINSHAW: Pte F. J. Brigginshaw - 78 Warwick Road, Luton.

BUCKINGHAM: Pte E. Buckingham - 9 Cross Street, Luton.

CARTER: Pte A. Carter - 69 Dumfries Street, Luton.

CROFT: Pte H. Croft - 26 Vicarage Street, Luton.
